Guatemala Considers Legalizing Community Radio

WASHINGTON, Aug 17 (OneWorld.net) - After a protracted pressure campaign led by some of the country's most marginalized groups, the Guatemalan legislature is considering a bill to protect community radio stations, which are often the only local-language source of information but have been raided and closed in regions where indigenous people are resisting infringements on their rights. Some 1,000 community radio volunteers from all over Guatemala and their supporters traveled to Guatemala City by bus and by truck for the occasion of the bill's introduction into Congress. © Cultural Survival, Inc. link..
