Kisaan

Kisaan Poster

The Story:

"Kisaan" is an intense family saga of a father and his two sons caught between the morals of agriculture and the advantages of urbanization, and later witness farmer suicides in their Punjabi village.

"Kisaan" is the tale of Dayal Singh (Jackie Shroff), a widowed farmer who ploughs his ancestral lands and raises his two sons - Aman (Arbaaz Khan) and Jigar (Sohail Khan). A fellow villager convinces Dayal to educate his children to avoid falling into the traps of rich invaders. Due to the lack of funds, Dayal decides to send only Aman off to the city for higher education while Jigar stays back to become a farmer like his father.

When Sohan Seth (Dalip Tahil), a shrewd businessman who plans to build industrial projects and wipe out the village, Dayal tries to stop him. Sohan partners up with the village scoundrel Nirmal (Romeo) and pledges he will not only take over his village, but also endanger his family and get the entire village to chant against him.

With their village and family under threat, Dayal and his sons fight for their rights, but have different outlooks on how to win the battle. The educated Aman, who returns to the city as a lawyer with his wife Priya (Dia Mirza), simply values the land as a piece of property and sees Sohan's plan as advantageous to the villagers, while Jigar, his wife Titli (Nauheed Cyrusi) and Dayal respect it as their "mother." The face off between the two brothers further divides the family until a tragedy forces them to reconsider their beliefs as well as their brotherhood.

What follows is a violent stretch of farmer suicides and a final showdown between the warring parties that reveal whether the family defeats Sohan and reunites, or turns their backs forever.
